Connected cows are cows that, through a variety of electronic devices, are connected to Internet, to monitor them and respond promptly to their needs.
A first example are cows for which the milking operations are governed by connected sensors and algorithms that determine how long to milk and cow and which cows need milking.
Moreover, Sparked, a Dutch company, developed sensors that are implanted in a cow’s ear. The data, transmitted wirelessly, is then used by the farmer to determine the health of individual cows as well as the herd. Much is also learned about fluctuations in diet, a cow’s response to environmental factors, and herd behavior.
Connected cows are here to stay!
