Mind copying – aka “whole brain emulation” or “mind uploading” – is the hypotetical process of copying or transferring a conscious mind from a brain to another storage medium by scanning and mapping a biological brain in detail and copying its information and computational state into a computer system or another computational device (wikipedia).
Mind copying would be an essential tool for life extention, first suggested in biomedical literature in 1971.
The uploaded mind can then be connected to a robotic body or istalled into cloned body.
According to Ray Kurzweil of Google, in just over 30 years humans will be able to upload their entire minds to computers and become digitally immortal – an event called singularity.
